OEM - Auxiliary Communications Unit

OEM's Auxiliary Communications Unit consists of volunteer amateur radio radio operators, volunteer operators of government communications services, and volunteer administrative support personnel, as well as qualified OEM staff members.

We provide a wide variety of backup communications services when primary services have become unusable due to natural and manmade disasters or technological issues prevent the use of primary communications methods. Our backup communications systems include, but are not limited to, Amateur Radio, HF-SHARES, Public Service Band Radio, NAWAS (National Warning System), FNARS (FEMA National Radio System), Satellite Communications, and various other radio services as needed. We coordinate backup communications with the 36 Oregon counties, 9 federally recognized tribes in Oregon, various state agencies, FEMA, and our surrounding states.
