The City of Medford has issued a Severe Weather Event Declaration due to forecasted temperatures dropping below 25°F or 32°F with additional precipitation or wind factors. In response, COAD is activating to assist in mobilizing volunteers for emergency shelter operations.
Volunteer Support Needed
The Medford Severe Weather Shelter relies on volunteers to provide a safe place for the unhoused community during severe weather events. Volunteers play a crucial role in handing out meals, blankets, and water, as well as supporting shelter operations. All shelter shifts are led by trained ACCESS employees, with volunteers providing additional on-site support.
Volunteer Duties:
Distribute meals, blankets, and water to shelter guests
Assist with shelter operations and ensure a welcoming environment
Support shelter staff in providing a safe and warm space for those in need
ACCESS provides volunteers with snacks, water, and essential sanitation supplies, including masks and gloves, to ensure a safe and comfortable experience
Shifts involve a combination of both standing and seated tasks, allowing for flexibility based on volunteer comfort and ability
Shelter Shifts Available:
5 PM - 9 PM
9 PM - 1 AM
1 AM - 5 AM
5 AM - 9 AM
Next Steps:
Once registered, your name, email, and phone number will be sent to the ACCESS shelter coordination team.
ACCESS staff will contact you directly to schedule shifts and provide any necessary orientation.
Track your volunteer hours online or through the ORVID APP called “Causer” — (Apple) (Google Play). You will use the same login credentials from ORVID in the Causer APP. This ensures accurate documentation of community impact and supports emergency response efforts.
Your time and support are critical in ensuring our community members can access a warm, safe place to stay during this severe weather event.
